The Fire Is Already There
Your people already have a fire inside them. Most business owners don't believe this.
They look at their team and see people who clock in and clock out, people who do the minimum, people who don't care like they do. And they think: "I just need better people."
But here's what I've learned in 35 years: Your people aren't unmotivated. They have an ember of potential, purpose, pride inside them. You just haven't learned how to find it.
Every employee wants to contribute to something meaningful, to feel ownership over their work, to be seen and valued, and to solve problems, not just follow orders.
But many leaders accidentally extinguish that fire by micromanaging (tells people you don't trust them), by focusing only on mistakes (kills initiative), and by keeping all decisions to themselves (creates dependence). Then they wonder why nobody else cares.
Here's what changes when you learn to ignite the fire that's already there: People stop checking out and start showing up. They care about quality because they take pride in their work. They solve problems without being told. They stay, because they WANT to, not because they HAVE to.
This isn't theory. I've seen manufacturing companies drop turnover from 40% to under 10%. I've seen tech startups go from constant drama to high-performing teams. I've seen family businesses prepare the next generation to lead differently, and better than the founder.
It doesn't require bigger budgets, fancy perks, or complete overhauls. It requires leadership that starts from the inside out. Leadership that finds the ember in each person and fans it into a flame.
What would change in your business if your team cared as much as you do?
